Mr. Ran Wei - KEYNOTE SPEAKER
President of BOTA - ST8 in Trauma and Orthopaedics
Mr. Wei graduated from the University of Manchester in 2010 and moved to North-West London to complete his foundation years training. His core surgical training took him to the West Midlands, where his passion for T&O surgery grew. He returned to London in 2014 to commence his specialty training in T&O surgery. As President of BOTA, he is dedicated to ensuring that the BOTA Committee remains focused on driving forward the agenda of excellence in surgical training.
Professor Xavier Griffin - KEYNOTE SPEAKER
Professor of T&O Surgery at Barts and The London & University of Oxford
Prof Xavier Griffin holds the inaugural Chair of the new clinical and academic collaboration in orthopaedic surgery at the renowned Barts and The London School of Medicine. He is a national specialist in the treatment of severe injuries of the pelvis and acetabulum. He is currently based at the Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.
After completing his undergraduate degrees at Cambridge and Oxford Universities in 1999 and 2002, Professor Griffin went on to do ten years of trauma and orthopaedic training in both Bristol and West Midlands. For his PhD, Professor Griffin investigated fracture healing using meta-analysis of randomised and no-randomised studies a clinical trial. He is also involved in education, supervising students working towards training in orthopaedic surgery.
Mr. Sebastian Dawson-Bowling - LUOS Co-Founder
Orthopaedic Clinical Network Director - Barts Health NHS Trust
Mr Dawson-Bowling is a Orthopaedic Clinical Network Director at Barts Health NHS Trust who specialises in hip and knee surgery as well as general trauma. He is also a Past President of British Orthopaedic Trainees Association and Honorary President of the British Orthopaedic Medical Student Association
His areas of expertise include hip and knee replacement, lower limb sports injuries, keyhole surgery and failing joint replacement. He also holds a keen interest in medical law, holding a Master’s degree in this subject.
Mrs. Tricia Campbell
Past President of BOTA - ST6 in Trauma and Orthopaedics
Mrs Tricia Campbell is an ST6 in Trauma and Orthopaedics based in the North East. She was the President of British Orthopaedic Trainees Association (BOTA) in 2019-20 and led the organisation through the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to that Mrs Campbell sat on the BOTA Executive Committee as Secretary and held the position of BMA rep during the Junior Doctor contract negotiations.
Mrs Campbell has combined her love of motorsports and trauma by working as a motorsport medic. Croft, in Darlington, is her home circuit and she is part of the medical team for Formula 1 at Silverstone.
Professor Duncan Tennent
Professor of Orthopaedic Education at St. George's, University of London
Prof Tennent is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at St. George's Hospital. His interests are arthroscopy of shoulder & elbow and complex reconstructions of both joints following trauma. Prof Tennent has written a textbook of arthroscopic surgery and published a number of scientific articles on the subject. He is the innovator within the field, holding the patent for a revolutionary arthroscopic technique for reconstruction of the acromioclavicular joint – The Tightrope Technique.
